Dr. Gail Gillan was named Director for Learning, Learning and Assessment Services at the University of Houston, in September 2006, after serving 6 years as Director of UH Wellness and 11 years on the counseling center staff at the University of Houston. Dr. Gillan has a doctorate in Communication from Southern Illinois University, an M.S.S.W. in Social Work from University of Texas-Arlington, a master’s degree in communication from Southwest Texas State University, and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from Southwest Texas State University. Her areas of expertise range from women’s health and wellness concerns, to human sexuality, to alcohol and substance abuse prevention. While remaining licensed as a clinical social worker, Dr. Gillan has turned her career toward administrative responsibilities with an emphasis on helping the University of Houston and its surrounding community become a safer, healthier learning environment.
