Georgia Thomas Bio

Georgia Thomas is an Associate Professor in the department of Infectious Diseases, Infection Control, and Employee Health at UT M.D. Anderson Cancer Center. She is the Executive Director of Employee Health & Well-being, an integrated, 25-person occupational health and wellness department reporting jointly to Infectious Diseases and to the Chief Human Resources Officer. She received her B.A. from Smith College (1969), her M.D. from the Ohio State College of Medicine (1973), and her M.P.H. from UT’s School of Public Health (1991). She is board certified in internal medicine, board eligible in occupational and preventive medicine, and certified by examination in addiction medicine. Her clinical interests include the transmission of infectious diseases in occupational settings, health programs for veterinary workers, and the issue of physician distress and impairment. Married to a breast medical oncologist at M.D. Anderson, her multiple roles as a physician and as a wife and mother have left her with an enduring interest in work-life balance.
