Kathryn E. Peek, Ph.D., is associate professor, Dept. Biomedical Engineering, UT M. D. Anderson Cancer Center and instructor, Dept. Bioengineering, Rice University. A native of Southeast Texas, Peek holds degrees from Lamar University (BA, English), University of Houston(MS, biology), UH Clear Lake (MA, behavioral sciences), and UT-Houston Health Science Center (Ph.D., biomedical sciences). In 2002, Peek co-founded the Texas Medical Center Women’s Health Network(TMC WHN). As the first president of the organization from 2002 to 2006, she served as scientific advisor for the Texas Legislature’s Women’s Health Caucus and represented Texas on the Women’s Health Alliance of the U.S. DHHS. Peek was named the 2006 Hannah G. Solomon awardee by the National Council of Jewish Women, Greater Houston Section for bringing about social change. She is former president of the Association for Women in Science-Gulf Coast/Houston Chapter.
