Kim Lopez Bio

Dr. Lopez is the Director of Strategic Partnerships and Community Health Practice for St. Luke's Episcopal Health Charities. Kim has a bachelor's degree in anthropology from the University of Houston, an MPH in Community Health Practice and a DrPH in Management, Policy and Community Health from The University of Texas School of Public Health-Houston. Her research interests include reproductive health, specifically, women’s and adolescent health, visual anthropology and qualitative research methods. She has more than 20 years experience designing, planning, implementing, and evaluating health services and health education programs in non-profit and academic settings. During her seven year tenure at Planned Parenthood of Houston and Southeast Texas she initiated and supervised the Teen Clinic, and clinics for HIV positive and incarcerated women. As Director of Health Education and Wellness at Rice University, she developed the university’s wellness program, the campus-wide response for alcohol and drug, implemented student health behavior surveys, and expanded peer education programs on campus. At St. Luke's she conducts community based health research in underserved areas in a 57 county region. She is currently leading a Healthy Neighborhood Initiative in Houston's Near Northside. Kim convenes the adolescent health community collaborative -PATH- Prevention and Advocacy for Teen Health. Kim is a Co-PI on a CDC-funded research project to develop a youth development model to prevent teen pregnancy and past Chair of The University of Texas Prevention Research Center Community Advisory Group.
