Sandra Cesario Bio

Dr. Sandra K. Cesario, RNC, MS, PhD, Doctoral Program Coordinator and Associate Professor in the College of Nursing at Texas Woman’s University, TWU, in Houston.Education: St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Racine, WI, 1976; BSN, Fort Hays State University, KS; MS degree in nursing, University of OK; PhD, TWU in Denton, TX in 1999. Dr. Cesario is a woman’s health specialist with over 30 years of clinical, research, education, and policy development experience. Her research concerns improving the practice of professional nursing care for women and newborns in management of labor and birth, newborn abandonment, and other women’s health issues. She is extensively involved in the development and revision process of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetric, and Neonatal Nurses(AWHONN) Evidence-Based Practice Guidelines. Recent awards include the 2007 TOBGNE Award for Innovations in Teaching, the 2006 Alumni Achievement Award from Fort Hays State University, the 2005 Faculty Excellence Award for Service from TWU College of Nursing, and the 2004 Award of Excellence in Education from AWHONN. She was recognized as one of the TWU 100 Outstanding Alumni in 2001 and a TNA District 9 Honoree for Nursing Celebration in 2000. Sandra Cesario has authored more than 30 publications and is currently writing an undergraduate nursing student Women’s Health textbook. She has consulted throughout the US, Canada, Mexico, Egypt, Ireland, Russia, and India.
